What is the source for New Urban Forestry Lumber?
All of our lumber is derived by environmentally friendly methods. New Urban Forestry salvages logs removed by reputable, local arborists and municipalities. City trees are under a significant amount of stress due to their environment, thus producing unique grain patterns and desirable colors, also referred to as “figure”. Our grades of wood are referred as grade 1, 2, and figured.

What is the various grades of lumber available?
New Urban Forestry Grade Descriptions: Figured – Distinctive or characteristic markings on longitudinal or side-grain surfaces of wood. Common types: Curly, Bird’s eye, fiddleback, spalted and mineral streaks. #1 – High quality with minimal defects. High percentage of clear wood. Comparable to FAS, Selects. Referred to as Furniture Grade. #2 – Good quality with minor defects such as tight knots. Referred to as Cabinet Grade

Other Products: Slabs - New Urban Forestry not only offers a selection of lumber for your projects but also offers unique slabs for custom projects. Slabs come in a variety of species, containing beautiful grain patterns and coloring. We offer slabs with or without the live edge (bark). Slabs are perfect for benches, mantles and tables. Give us a call to see what slabs are currently in stock. Typical slabs are 2” thick and vary in width and length.
